Parashah Noach recounts a world overcome by corruption, where God brings judgment through a great flood while preserving Noah, his family, and representatives of every living creature. After the waters recede, God establishes a covenant with Noah, marked by the rainbow, promising never again to destroy the earth by flood. Yet even in this new beginning, humanity’s flawed nature remains evident.
The portion continues with the account of the Tower of Babel, where unified humanity seeks to make a name for itself apart from God. In response, God confuses their language and scatters them across the earth. The parashah closes by narrowing the focus to the lineage of Shem, setting the stage for the calling of Abraham and the unfolding of God’s redemptive plan.
